In Calgary, Wes Gilbertson noted the Flames not only confirmed a two-year contract extension for GM Craig Conroy but “added that three other hockey ops executives” -- President of Hockey Operations Don Maloney, SVP/Hockey Operations & Assistant GM Dave Nonis and VP/Hockey Operations and Assistant GM Brad Pascall -- have also “re-upped through the end of the 2027-28 campaign.” They were signed prior to the start of the 2025-26 season. Many fans have “cheered reports that Conroy would be sticking around,” believing that he “deserves big credit for restocking the prospect pipeline and clearing opportunity for some of the up-and-comers” (CALGARY HERALD, 11/28).
AWFUL LOOK: In Denver, Troy Renck noted Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer’s return “looks awful.” But the move says “the quiet part out loud.” Canning Schaeffer would have “made sense if the Rockies were trying to win or poised to reshape their roster with upgraded free agents and Band-Aid veterans.” Renck: “Alas, they are not. This is not a fixer-upper. This is a complete rebuild.” President of Baseball Operations Paul DePodesta, frankly, has “much bigger things to fix.” He must “find a general manager” and “overhaul the minor league coaching staffs and scouting departments” (DENVER POST, 11/29).
