Arsenal is “on course to set a new Premier League record for revenues even if they lose the Champions League final,” according to Martyn Ziegler of the London TIMES. This season, which saw Arsenal win the Premier League, should result in the club “posting revenues of up to” $1.03B (All figures US) if they beat Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30, with $1.02B “already guaranteed” -- surpassing the previous record of Manchester City’s $960M in 2023-24. That “could push Arsenal into third spot in the table of the world’s richest clubs,” behind La Liga clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona. However, finance experts believe that Arsenal’s increased spending on transfers and wages “may mean they are likely to still post a loss for the season.” The increase in revenues this season “includes about” $33.6M more from the Premier League. It is estimated that commercial sponsors such as Emirates and Adidas will have “bonus clauses in their deals for trophies that could mean as much as an extra” $33.6M. The extra income will give Arsenal “reasonable space to comply” with the Premier League’s and UEFA’s financial rules, but that higher spending is “likely to mean ending the financial year in the red” (London TIMES, 5/20).
