Clippers Owner Steve Ballmer last night expressed his desire for a new arena because he believes his team is the "third tenant” at Staples Center. Ballmer, appearing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," said, “We play on the worst nights, we’ve got the crappiest locker room, we make the least money, but at the end of the day you say, ‘Hey, if we’re going to be a first-class world organization … we got to have our own house. We’ve got to stand for something.” Ballmer said a new building would need to be something that "attracts players” and he wants a “different environment" than Staples Center. Host Jimmy Kimmel noted Ballmer has “taken an interest in the whole experience” at Staples Center, “even the music.” Ballmer said, “If you want to have really good energy, the music matters tremendously ... and since I live for the energy, probably not surprising, it’s important” ("Jimmy Kimmel Live," ABC, 2/26).
