The Crew players and coaches celebrated their 2023 MLS Cup championship at the White House Friday in a ceremony hosted but Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who "described himself as a 'late sub-in'" for President Joe Biden. The President "met with the team beforehand." Both Emhoff and Crew coach Wilfried Nancy spoke during the ceremony. Crew owner Dee Haslam, GM Issa Tall and team captain Darlington Nagbe "presented Emhoff with a No. 1 Crew jersey" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 9/27).
