Coyotes Lay Off Unspecified Number Of Staff Amid Pandemic Woes

The Coyotes "laid off staff on Friday," and deemed the decision "necessary because of the team's financial problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic," according to Fifield & Morin of the ARIZONA REPUBLIC. The club wrote, "We've had to make some extremely difficult decisions. ... We reduced our operations to help us deal with this unprecedented health and financial situation." The team "declined to answer specific questions about the number of employees let go, or what positions they were in." The move comes after the team "furloughed half of its business staff in April" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 8/22). After the April furloughs, the club "did pay its hourly and part-time employees for the final home games wiped out by the leaguewide shutdown" (AP, 8/21).
