NCAA president search expected to accelerate

The search for the next NCAA president is "expected to 'accelerate' during the next two-to-four months," with a goal of naming a replacement for Mark Emmert by "early next year." Univ. of Georgia President Jere Morehead, who is on the search committee, said, "I don’t think it has to be a college president or a commissioner or an athletic director. It possibly could be someone outside of the collegiate atmosphere." Morehead added that he would "not be a candidate" for the position, and that whoever does replace Emmert will take over at "an inflection point" for the NCAA. The NCAA "posted a job description for the presidency this week." Morehead said that the posting means the next president "'could be anybody,' from inside or outside college athletics" (THEATHLETIC.com, 9/24).
