The Pirates said yesterday that "a verbal agreement had been reached to settle a lawsuit"by the MLBPA against the team's parent company and the convenience store chain Sheetz, which alleged "unlicensed use of players' names and images on social media." While the union said a settlement was "in the process of being negotiated, the suit remained pending" as of yesterday afternoon. Pirates SVP/Communications & Broadcasting Brian Warecki said in a statement that the team expects the complaint "to be withdrawn" (AP, 8/15).
