The Dodgers, for the fourth time in eight years, are going back to the World Series, taking the NL pennant by routing the Mets, 10-5, in Game 6 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium last night. They will face the Yankees in the World Series, giving MLB "its dream LA-NY matchup," beginning Friday night at Dodger Stadium (USA TODAY, 10/21). Dodgers-Yankees is a matchup between No. 1 seeds and historic franchises that MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred himself "couldn’t dream up any better" (SI, 10/21). Baseball’s "two most legendary franchises" will meet for the 12th time in a World Series, the "most prolific" Series matchup in baseball history even though they haven’t shared this stage in 43 years (L.A. TIMES, 10/20).
One of the "best ways to harness" star power "is to get it on the biggest stage." Finally, "it will happen" with Yankees RF Aaron Judge and Dodgers P/DH Shohei Ohtani making their respective World Series debuts against one another (THE ATHLETIC, 10/20). Dodgers 3B Max Muncy said of the matchup, "You’re talking about two of the biggest franchises. The biggest [stars] in the sport. You’ve got Freddie, Mookie, Shohei. On the other side you’ve got Aaron Judge, Giancarlo, Juan Soto, Gerrit Cole. The game’s biggest stars on the biggest stage -- how can you not be excited about this as a fan?" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 10/21).
