Franchise Notes

In Denver, Troy Renck wrote the Rockies are “on pace for a third consecutive 100-loss season,” and there is “no reason to suggest any moves will happen.” Rockies owner Dick Monfort “values loyalty over competence” and “patience over consequence.” This is what happens when a franchise “operates in a vacuum, shakes its fist at the clouds about a salary cap and treats analytics like hieroglyphics.” Renck: “Monfort is not selling the team. He is not hiring a real president, desperately needed to diminish the owner’s influence on baseball decisions” (DENVER POST, 4/10).

WEATHER OR NOT: In Boston, Dan Shaughnessy writes the Red Sox “do their fans a disservice with the handling of horrible-weather night games in April.” The gates were opened last Saturday when it was “pretty clear there would be no game.” Meanwhile, several games this week were played under weather conditions that were a “joke.” Shaughnessy: “Play the games earlier in the day or offer fans a chance to swap tickets for a different game” (BOSTON GLOBE, 4/11).
