Yesterday, Axios published snippets of an exclusive interview with Anthropic’s chief information security officer Jason Clinton, where he shared his thought that AI employees are potentially one year away. I’ve included the link below in our must-reads in tech section.
I’m generally skeptical of the full-time AI worker, but the point about these virtual workers having memory really intrigued me. That sounds like a compelling way to maintain institutional knowledge, especially in the sports world, where turnover can be quick while traction on an overall vision needs to be maintained. — Ethan Joyce

ALT Sports Data raises $5M seed
Betting data startup ALT Sports Data has raised a $5 million seed round, SBJ’s Rob Schaefer reports. The raise was co-led by Relay Ventures and Eberg Capital and participated in by new investors Motley Fool Ventures and Scrum Ventures.
San Diego-based ALT Sports Data, an emerging sports-focused data provider whose core offering is a software platform called NXTbets, was founded in 2021 by former GoPro marketing executives Joe Dunnigan (the company’s CEO), Todd Ballard (CMO) and ex-World Surf League exec Michael Jordan (Chief Product Officer).
ALT Sports Data now has more than 25 sports property partners, including recent pacts with Formula 1, for which it is designated the “official betting data supplier,” and X Games.

Relo Metrics adds NWSL to valuation tool
Relo Metrics has added the NWSL to its Relo Census product, allowing sponsorship to be tracked via multiple channels for the rapidly growing top-flight women’s league in North America.
Census uses AI to monitor linear broadcasts, OTT streams and social media channels to provide real-time valuations of branding ROI. The NWSL becomes the latest league added to the platform, which also tracks data across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, F1 and WNBA.

SportsEngine Play lands extension with NXTPRO properties
SportsEngine Play, the streaming arm of NBC’s SportsEngine youth sports business, has agreed to a five-year extension with NXTPRO Sports’ Puma NXT and Puma Pro16 youth basketball properties, SBJ’s Chris Smith reports. Under the deal, SportsEngine Play will carry live coverage of more than 10,000 elite youth-level games in 2025. In a new wrinkle, Peacock will also stream ten fully produced games this year.
SportsEngine VP/Video Operations Nick Busto said the elite-level basketball circuits have been a valuable property through SportsEngine Play’s early years.
