World Lacrosse inks title sponsor for championship

World Lacrosse will today announce Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego as the presenting sponsor for its men’s world championship event in San Diego at the end of June. The quadrennial tournament will feature 30 national lacrosse teams and be hosted by the San Diego 2023 Organizing Committee, which is chaired by billionaire Joe Tsai. Tsai is an investor in the Premier Lacrosse League and owns National Lacrosse League teams in San Diego and Las Vegas. The organizing committee is expected to pursue several fundraising programs to support the children’s hospital.

The world championship had originally been scheduled for last year but was delayed due to COVID, and it was previously relocated from Canada to California -- marking the first time the state will host the championship event -- to maximize exposure for the sport. The opening ceremony and first game will take place on June 21 at San Diego State Univ.'s recently opened Snapdragon Stadium.
