Miami and China have been added to the roster of F1 sprint race events in 2024, replacing Baku and Spa -- which will revert to a normal grand prix timetable this year. The Chinese Grand Prix on April 21 and the Miami GP on May 5 will be "hosting their first sprint events." F1 teams are set to be given proposals about "a revamp of the sprint format" in January, as "efforts are ongoing" to finalize potential rule changes (MOTORSPORT, 12/5).
Meanwhile, talks to bring an F1 race to the streets of Madrid "are not yet concluded" but could be finalized "in a matter of weeks." Current proposals are to "race in the Spanish capital from 2026 until 2035" on a course "laid out around the IFEMA convention centre" in the northeast of the city, close to Madrid-Barajas International Airport. The circuit would use the IFEMA pavilion complex and fairgrounds "as its start-finish straight and the site of the paddock complex" (MOTORSPORT, 12/5).
