Univ. of Iowa interim AD Beth Goetz has been named the school's permanent AD, becoming Iowa's 13th AD in school history. Goetz has served in the interim role at Iowa since August 2023, after longtime AD Gary Barta, who had held that title since 2006, "announced his retirement plans" in May 2023. She joined Iowa's athletics department as Deputy AD & COO in 2022 after having served as Ball State AD. School leaders believe Goetz has "shown that she has what it takes to do the job in the modern landscape of college athletics." That includes a "deep understanding of things like the transfer portal; name, image and likeness (NIL) opportunities; and relations with the Swarm Collective, a fundraising organization that works closely with the athletics department." Goetz is the only female AD in the Big Ten (DES MOINES REGISTER, 1/18).
