This Week in History: Cleveland lands NFL team

February 12,  1937  -- The NFL grants a franchise in Cleveland to Homer Marshman and Associates. The Rams would remain in Cleveland for nine years before moving to California. Cleveland Municipal Stadium -- now the site of FirstEnergy Stadium -- was home to the Cleveland Rams for 20 of their 35 home games in Cleveland. After the 1994 season, the Rams would then move to St. Louis, but would return to L.A. in 2016.

  • February 13, 1923 -- The first Black pro basketball team, "Renaissance," organizes.
  • February 13, 1937 -- The Boston Redskins receive approval from the NFL to move to D.C.
  • February 14, 1966 -- Wilt Chamberlain breaks the NBA career scoring record at 20,884 points.
  • February 15, 1990 -- Baseball owners lock out players.
