Bill E. Ford's family buys into English soccer team York City FC

The family office of General Atlantic CEO Bill E. Ford has emerged as a “significant minority shareholder” in English National League club York City FC, according to David Hellier of BLOOMBERG NEWS. Ford’s family office bought a 24% shareholding in the club earlier this year. York City announced “a new strategic partner” in June but did not identify them. The investment is driven by Ford’s sons -- Billy and Tim. York City is majority owned by Matthew and Julie-Anne Uggla -- the wife and son of Lance Uggla, who is also Vice Chair of General Atlantic and founded IHS Markit. The investment from Ford’s family office represents “yet another foray by an American group” into the lower leagues of English football (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 9/26).
