FIFA has named San Diego Wave FC President Jill Ellis to the new position of Chief Football Officer, where she will serve as part of the governing body’s executive management team and drive the development and implementation of FIFA’s global football strategy. In her new role, Ellis -- who also coached the USWNT to Women's World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019 -- will work alongside FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsène Wenger. Her responsibilities will encompass key technical areas connected to the development of the game across the world (FIFA). Ellis was named president of the Wave prior to the team's inaugural 2022 season and helped lead the franchise to the NWSL Shield trophy in 2023. She was also implicated in a lawsuit concerning toxic workplace allegations with the Wave, though the front office was cleared of wrongdoing by the NWSL and Ellis eventually filed a lawsuit of her own in response (SBJ).
