Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta is "expected" to be President-elect Donald Trump's pick for U.S. ambassador to Italy. Fertitta is a "friend of Trump's and longtime GOP donor" who is the CEO of Landry's Inc. He "joined Trump" and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk for a Starship rocket launch in Texas in November (CBS NEWS, 12/11). Fertitta is the latest sports owner to be offered an ambassador role by Trump. During Trump's first administration, he named Jets owner Woody Johnson as ambassador to the U.K. While he won't be returning to the post in the second administration, he could wind up in a different role (SBJ).
