CFP Executive Director Rich Clark, who opened the conference with a one-on-one with Austin Karp, reflected on the progress the organization has made under his first year, and looked to a future that could involve AI, an expanded format and more.
Though he doesn’t have a vote for who will make the playoffs, and the retired general is still adjusting to his new role where he has less power over decisions and individuals, criticism still is thrown his way over which teams are in and out of the playoffs. But it’s nothing new to him, he said in the opening session at IAF this year.
“The results we get in the room should be shared with the world to let people debate and talk about it. But don’t throw stones at committee members,” he said. “I think that’s kind of why I got hired. I’m able to take fire. I’ve been taking fire for 38 years and I’m taking more fire now than I ever did in the military. But I love it.”
