BBC and ITV "will share the rights" for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups, continuing a relationship that dates back to 1966. The two broadcasters paid a reported $200M to FIFA for rights to the 2022 event in Qatar. One source said there had been "a reasonable increase" to the fee "to reflect that the number of matches will almost double in 2026" when the World Cup increases from 32 teams to 48. The two broadcasters will "share the rights equally, splitting matches between them, including a shared final." BBC and ITV had already agreed a deal with UEFA to split the coverage of Euro 2028 (London TIMES, 12/17).
