President Bidentoday "signed a bill giving D.C. control of the RFK Stadium campus into law," paving the way for the city to redevelop the property and bring about the "possibility of returning the Washington Commanders to the site." The law gives D.C. administrative control of the property "for 99 years, allowing the city to develop the more than 170 acres for a slate of purposes, including retail, housing, recreation -- and a sports stadium." D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said it was "a good day for DC when we finally have control of our destiny at the RFK campus." With D.C. controlling the site, Bowser will "formally be able to negotiate" with the Commanders as D.C. competes with Maryland "for a chance to build the next Commanders stadium" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/6).
