The International Boxing Association has "asked" U.S. President Donald Trump's administration "to 'look into' the sport's omission" from the 2028 L.A. Olympics. The IBA, which previously ran the Olympics' boxing program, was stripped of its role. The IOC organized boxing in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics, but it said that it "will not do so at future Olympics." However, the IOC remains "hopeful the sport can be restored to the programme through a new international federation." Boxing is not currently "part of the 2028 plans," but a final decision "has not yet been made." The IBA asked Trump to "help restore boxing to the Olympic programme," and said that it "welcomed Trump's stance on the 'participation of ineligible athletes' in boxing" (BBC, 1/22).
