The SEC’s report for FY24 revealed that Commissioner Greg Sankey’s total pay for the 2023 calendar year is “nearly” $4.3M, including “nearly” $4.2M in base pay, according to Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY. That is an increase of “just over $675,000 (nearly 19%)” from his total reported for 2022 and makes this the “first time” Sankey has been above $4M in annual compensation. The pay for Sankey and other conference executives is reported on the “calendar year completed during their fiscal year,” which is 2023 for the SEC. In July 2023, the conference announced a contract extension with Sankey that will run through June 30, 2028. Deputy Commissioner Charlie Hussey’s total pay “increased by just over” $200,000 to a “little more than” $860,000. Associate Commissioner Tiffany Daniels’ pay “climbed by more than” $115,000 to nearly $565,000 (USA TODAY, 2/6).

NEW ADDITIONS: In Houston, Kirk Bohls noted Texas and Oklahoma each received $27.5M from the SEC for the fiscal year ending on Aug. 31, 2024 resulting from “transition payments derived from television agreements and refundable application fees.” The SEC distributed $808.4M and averaged $52.5M apiece “in payouts to the other 14 member schools that had full participation.” Texas and OU did not join the conference until July 1, 2024 and “weren’t entitled to the full shares.” The total revenue for 2023-24 represents a “large increase above” the $741M distributed in 2022-23. The average per school distribution “increased” from $51.3M (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 2/6).

MOVING OVER: In Tulsa, Eric Bailey noted OU and Texas “forfeited a combined” $100M in revenue distribution with the Big 12 to exit their former conference early and join the SEC in 2024. The two schools did receive an “estimated full share” of $39.8M in their last year. In 2023, OU and the other Big 12 schools received $44M (TULSA WORLD, 2/6).
