Sunday’s sold-out matchup between the Toronto Sceptres and Ottawa Charge at Rogers Place is a “chance for Edmonton to show that it can be a city that is home to a PWHL team,” according to Steven Sandor of the CP. Ticketmaster shows that “only resale tickets are available for the game,” with some seats on offer for more than CA$500 (US$350.66) each. Edmonton is the fifth city to host a neutral-site PWHL game this season as part of its nine-site Takeover Tour. Charge FW Danielle Serdachny said that the “stakes are much higher” than a typical game. She said the Takeover Tour is “kind of like a tryout for these cities, in a way” as they “can show the league as a whole what the city has to offer.” Charge D Stephanie Markowski said that the topic of westward expansion “comes up often with family and friends in Edmonton.” Adding that they “want to see the league get into the Mountain and Pacific time zones.” Sceptres FW Blayre Turnbull said that “moving the league beyond the original six teams is important for women’s hockey” (CP, 2/12). Turnbull added they are “definitely looking forward to getting out there, to playing in front of a new fanbase” and she believes the “fans in Edmonton will get excited about that” (THE HOCKEY NEWS, 2/12).
