Country music singer Zach Bryan is set to perform at Michigan Stadium on Sept. 27, the “first-ever concert” held at the venue, according to Brain McCollum of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. The show will include John Mayer as opener, along with support acts Ryan Bingham, the Texas Gentlemen and Joshua Slone. The timing of the concert comes during a bye week for Univ. of Michigan football, leaving “two empty weeks to accommodate load-in and load-out at Michigan Stadium.” The venue’s concert use has been “famously limited through the decades” by its small loading tunnel. Michigan AD Warde Manuel indicated that the Bryan booking “followed a lengthy process exploring concert possibilities at the stadium.” He credited the university’s Board of Regents and President Santa Ono, along with show promoter AEG Presents (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 2/12).
EYES ON THE RECORD: The show will “look to break the North American attendance record for concerts,” which was set in June 2024 when George Strait packed 110,905 people into Texas A&M’s Kyle Field. College football stadiums have been “hosting more concerts in recent years, partly as a revenue stream” to supplement NIL payouts (DETROIT NEWS, 2/12).
