Populous has shared new interior renderings of Penn State’s $700M Beaver Stadium renovation project, specifically the venue’s new concourses and premium areas.
The overall project has been underway for more than a year, but the work that begins this offseason and will be completed by the 2027 season will remake the west side of the 106,572-seat stadium. Demolition began as soon as Penn State’s football season was finished, with the press box on that side of the stadium demolished in a snowy implosion along with the west side upper seating bowl. Nearly 8,000 temporary seats will be installed there for the 2025 season. Pam Health and the Misitano family claimed naming rights to the new tower that will go up on the west side, thanks to a $25M gift last August. Other clubs in the tower have been named, too, including the 35,000-square-foot Marzano Club and 20,000-square-foot Schuyler Family Club, which will both be used for year-round event hosting. Despite the addition of new premium, nearly 75% of the stadium’s west side will be non-premium seating, in both the upper and lower levels.
In addition to the tower, numerous other aspects of the stadium will be improved. The renovated stadium will have three concourses (for the first time), doubling concourse space, and 135 new WiFi access points will be scattered throughout the stadium, improving connectivity. Additional elevators and escalators will enhance fans' movement through the building, and stadium lighting and videoboards will also be upgraded.
A tri-venture construction entity consisting of Barton Malow, AECOM Hunt and Alexander Construction is doing the building, while Nations Group has served as a project consultant. Elevate is also involved, advising Penn State athletics on ticketing, seating and premium strategy, while Playfly Sports -- Penn State’s multimedia rights partner -- also made a $5M contribution to the new west side tower.
