The large script “Tigers” signage that “long has sat high atop the left-field scoreboard at Comerica Park has been taken down” and will be replaced by Opening Day with signage that “bears the name of Detroit’s ballpark,” according to Tony Paul of the DETROIT NEWS. The team indicated that the “Tigers” signage, which could be “illuminated with different colors but mostly was orange and black like Tigers stripes, ‘had reached its mechanical end of life.’” A new “Comerica Park” sign, white with “Comerica” in bigger letters than “Park,” now will take over. The ballpark’s name was spelled out on the scoreboard below the “Tigers” signage from 2000-2023. Prior to last season, the Tigers introduced a larger videoboard that ended up “monopolizing the space” where “Comerica Park” used to be spelled out (DETROIT NEWS, 3/17).

GIBBY SIGNS OFF: In Detroit, Jeff Seidel reported FanDuel Sports Network Detroit color commentator Kirk Gibson, who has waged a public battle against Parkinson’s disease, is stepping down as a member of the Tigers broadcasts this season to “focus on his health.” Gibson was listed as a contributing analyst in late February when the Tigers revealed the broadcast talent for 2025. He will “remain a member of the Tigers organization” as a special assistant to the GM. Gibson announced that he had Parkinson’s in 2015. Since then, he has “continued to broadcast games, although his involvement has steadily decreased” (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 3/17).
