The Univ. of Memphis athletic department announced a “planned capacity reduction” for its men’s basketball home games at FedExForum next season, according to Omer Yusuf of the MEMPHIS BUSINESS JOURNAL. The school plans to “reduce the north and south sides of the Terrace Level by 3,649 seats” for the 2025-26 basketball season. The school is also “restructuring ticket prices for the Club and Plaza levels as part of the changes.” That means capacity at home games is “now capped at 14,470, with the ability to open the curtains for games in the future.” The NCAA lists FedExForum’s capacity for the Tigers as 18,400. The Tigers averaged an announced attendance of 11,931 fans for its 15 home games in the 2024-25 season (MEMPHIS BUSINESS JOURNAL, 4/1).
TAX THAT: In Memphis, Munz & Dylan noted season ticket and parking prices for Memphis football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball “will for the first time include sales tax.” The Shelby County sales tax rate is 9.75%. Last month, Memphis “formally declared its intent to opt in” to the House v. NCAA settlement (MEMPHIS COMMERCIAL APPEAL, 4/1).
