Basketball HOFer and NBA EVP & Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars is “finalizing a deal” to become the new President of Basketball Operations for the Pelicans, according to sources. Dumars would replace David Griffin -- who was fired Monday -- as the top basketball executive for the franchise. Dumars served as the chief strategy officer of the Kings from 2019-22 and has been with the NBA league office since 2022. Dumars also ran the Pistons from 2000-14, winning the Executive of the Year in 2003 and building the 2004 championship team. In New Orleans, Dumars is “expected to soon immerse himself with the current basketball staff,” led by GM Bryson Graham, and coach Willie Green (ESPN.com, 4/15).
