The Sacramento Kings have mutually agreed to part ways with GM Monte McNair after last night’s 120-106 loss to the Mavericks in the NBA play-in game. A “number of players in the locker room reacted with surprise when the news broke” less than an hour after the game ended. He was named NBA Exec of the Year after assembling a team that won 48 games to secure the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference in 2022-23. The Kings fired coach Mike Brown on Dec. 27 (SACRAMENTO BEE, 4/16). The new GM will be the fifth lead exec since owner Vivek Ranadive took over the team in 2013. The Kings have gone through nine coaches in that span -- including interims (AP, 4/17).

McNair’s departure comes three weeks after assistant GM Wes Wilcox left to become GM of the Univ. of Utah’s men’s basketball team. Wilcox also spent five seasons in the Kings’ front office (ESPN.com, 4/17).
