Scottish club Rangers FC confirms talks over club takeover with 49ers, U.S. investors

Scottish Premiership club Rangers have “confirmed for the first time that they are in negotiations with American investors,” including the 49ers, about a “possible takeover of the club,” according to the BBC.com. The club said that “productive conversations” are ongoing. In a joint statement, Rangers also added that the potential investors “are looking for a controlling stake.” Neither party have mentioned a timeline for any deal to be concluded. Though sources previously said that a deal “was expected to be completed between April and June.” BBC Sport previously reported that Paraag Marathe, Leeds United chair and president of 49ers Enterprises -- the investment wing of the 49ers -- is a “key player in the prospective Rangers takeover.” 49ers Enterprises has full control of Leeds after a takeover in July 2023 (BBC.com, 4/23).

STILL COMMITTED: In Yorkshire, Joe Donnohue noted Leeds United majority shareholder 49ers Enterprises have “reaffirmed their commitment to the club” after takeover talks with Scottish Premiership side Rangers were confirmed. The 49ers insist they “are still wholly committed to their Elland Road responsibilities and are looking forward to next season” in the EPL (YORKSHIRE EVENING POST, 4/23).
