Boxer Katie Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano via majority decision in a “historic night at Madison Square Garden” to remain undisputed light-welterweight champion of the world and “complete an epic trilogy” by winning all three fights. Friday’s trilogy fight, which served as the co-main event on the “first-ever all-female boxing card at Madison Square Garden, was far more conservative than each of Taylor’s two previous meetings with Serrano.” The all-female card was organized by Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian’s Most Valuable Promotions (AMNY, 7/12). MSG was sold out with 19,721 in attendance, and the event generated a live gate of $2.63M -- “double the gate of Taylor-Serrano I.” The three-fight series between Taylor and Serrano “raised the profile of women’s boxing to a level neither fighter could have ever imagined.” Paul said, “There is so much amazing talent coming up.” Promoter Lou DiBella said, “Right now Jake Paul and MVP are sustaining women’s boxing. Friday night was an undeniably huge event” (NEWSDAY, 7/12). The “ultimate winner was the sport itself.” The broadcast “dealt with none of the freezing and buffering issues that plagued” their second fight in November. Friday’s “lone technical glitch was with the audio settings during Serrano’s starry introduction” (THE ATHLETIC, 7/12).
