Texas AD Chris Del Conte denied that the “financial pressures of the shifting collegiate athletics environment” led to the school’s recent partnership with health supplement company Humann, according to David Eckert of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. Earlier in the week, Texas agreed to a multiyear sponsorship with the Austin-based company that will place the brand’s logo on the turf at Campbell-Williams Field. Del Conte said, “Everyone’s talking about that they’re using this to generate money. My ecosystem, I am fine.” He added Texas “did not need this deal to make the new era of college athletics work.” Del Conte said that Humann’s story “influenced his altered course” on placing logos on the field. He said that “Texas ‘owes the world’ to help make Humann more visible” because of the company’s work creating products that benefit cardiovascular health (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 8/25).

NOT GONNA HAPPEN: In Houston, Kirk Bohls noted Del Conte was “adamant” that Texas will not put any logos other than Nike’s on Longhorn uniforms. Del Conte said, “Not a chance. Everybody hear that. That’s sacred ground. It was never a discussion with me. We never went down that path” (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/25).
