LSU Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott Ballard said that Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry was “not involved with LSU’s decision to part ways” with AD Scott Woodward. Ballard, during a press conference Friday, said Landry is “worried about the state of Louisiana,” adding his “concern had to do with the state contract.” He said the decision for Woodward to leave was made “jointly” by the LSU board and Woodward. Ballard did “not provide a clear explanation as to why Woodward was no longer LSU’s athletic director” (NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE, 10/31).

LSU Board of Supervisors Athletic Committee Chairman John Carmouche said that Louisiana taxpayers “will not foot the bill for an LSU football coach.” Carmouche, a senior partner with the Talbot, Carmouche & Marcello law firm, was responding to a question about Landry’s statements over “his concerns about multi-million dollar contracts and how the public’s money was spent” (NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE, 10/31). LSU interim AD Verge Ausberry was “given ‘full authority’ to hire the next Tigers football coach by the school’s board of supervisors on Friday.” Ausberry said he was told the job is to “get the best football coach there is” (THE ATHLETIC, 10/31).
