N.Y. Mayor Eric Adams announced that the city “will host a championship ceremony” for the NWSL champion NJ/NY Gotham FC Monday at City Hall, where the team “will be given the key to the city.” Gates open at 9am ET, and fans “can register for free tickets online.” The city “couldn’t logistically make a parade work because of preparations for Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day parade,” and Gotham FC was “understanding about the situation,” according to a team spokesperson. Gotham “had to squeeze the celebration in quickly” before many of their players “leave town for international duty and due to the league-mandated CBA break” (N.Y. POST, 11/23).
The event will “begin with a short procession from Barclay Street and Broadway to City Hall,” where Adams and other city officials “will honor the team.” City Hall was “illuminated with blue lights starting Saturday and will continue to be lit in the team’s colors through Monday” (NEWSDAY, 11/23).
