Major League Fishing Adds Eight-Event Bass Pro Tour

Major League Fishing today announced a new tournament circuit beginning in '19. The expanded MLF program includes the addition of the Bass Pro Tour, a premier 80-angler, eight-event tour with a championship and heightened payouts, made possible through support from Bass Pro Shops and Outdoor Sportsman Group. While MLF will continue its Cup events and World Championship, airing on Outdoor Channel and CBS, respectively, it will now also have its own new Bass Pro Tour competitions and championship, and eventually tour qualifiers. All of these events will use MLF’s format in which numbers caught can often contribute more to anglers' scores than landing the biggest fish.

MLF officials will announce the finalized MLF Bass Pro Tour schedule, format and anglers in the coming weeks. Bass Pro Shops Founder Johnny Morris said support of the MLF Bass Pro Tour will not impact its sponsorship interests related to B.A.S.S. or FLW. Bass Pro Shops currently serves as presenting sponsor to B.A.S.S.’s Bassmaster Open and Bassmaster College Series.

Quote of the Day
We have the ability to finance this all ourselves. When we were talking to fellow (MLB team) owners and the commissioner (Rob Manfred), it was important to me that we have this opportunity to bring in local investors and other investors, as we’ve seen with teams all over the country. You have these sometimes consortiums of investors who’ve brought a lot of value.
-- A's owner John Fisher, on how the team is actively pursuing bringing in investors to contribute a total of up to $550M to the Las Vegas ballpark project.
