WTA, ATP meeting next week on Wimbledon bans

The WTA and ATP "will decide on their response to Wimbledon’s controversial ban" of Russian and Belarusian players next week, with "meetings due to unfold in Madrid between Monday and Wednesday." The main recourse available to the ATP and WTA "would be to remove ranking points from Wimbledon this summer." This would be an "unprecedented act, reducing the world’s biggest tournament to the status of an exhibition event -- albeit one with a massive prizemoney fund." The tours also "have the option to ask their players to boycott Wimbledon," but this is seen as "extremely unlikely" (London TELEGRAPH, 4/21).
