ProAngle Media will produce Lakers telecasts for KCAL-Ind, but “key people such as [VP & Senior Exec Producer] Jeff Proctor and [Exec Producer & Dir] Susan Stratton will still be involved,” according to Larry Stewart of the L.A. TIMES. ProAngle Media was formed by Proctor and AEG Teleworks GM Steve Rangel, whose company is the production arm for Staples Center. In October, KCAL was “hit with a cost-cutting edict from parent company Viacom to go with an outside company to produce its live sports coverage,” beginning January 1. Proctor, who is leaving KCAL, said that “most of the Laker production crew would remain intact,” including Stratton, now in her 28th season, and Producer Mark Shah. But the production budget “will be less, and there will be cutbacks in personnel and equipment.” The traveling Lakers crew of nine “will be reduced to six, with three technical positions being lost” ( L.A. TIMES, 12/16 ).
