Katz Bypasses Oilers’ BOD In Third Attempt To Buy Team

Katz Group Chair Daryl Katz, who has been rebuffed in two previous attempts to purchase the Oilers, has reportedly “upped the ante, to as much as" C$170M, according to Robert Tychkowski of the EDMONTON SUN.   The first two bids Katz made to buy a majority stake in the club were presented to the BOD, but this time he has gone “straight to shareholders with the offer” to buy the entire team.  Neither Katz nor the Oilers would confirm details of the offer.  Tychkowski notes Katz needs two-thirds of the 35 members of the Edmonton Investors Group to vote in his favor for the sale to go through.  The team’s BOD has a meeting scheduled for today ( EDMONTON SUN, 7/19 ).
