Canseco's Book Gets New Publisher, Still Set For Opening Day

Former MLBer Jose Canseco is switching publishers for his upcoming book "Vindicated" after Berkley Books "withdrew from the project Tuesday," according to Motoko Rich of the N.Y. TIMES. Berkley VP/Publicity Craig Burke said in an e-mail, "We have agreed to part ways due to editorial delays that made it impossible to maintain our original publishing schedule." Rich reports Berkley "grew concerned" when Don Yaeger, who was originally set to collaborate with Canseco, "pulled out of the project a few weeks ago." Another source said that Berkley had "questions about its news value." Canseco's literary agent Bret Saxon said that he has "secured another publisher and that the book would come out in time for opening day," though Saxon declined to name the new publisher. Former National Enquirer writer Pablo Fenjves, who co-wrote O.J. Simpson's book "If I Did It," is now working on the project. Saxon said the book is complete and Canseco will be "naming some new names and some huge ones" ( N.Y. TIMES, 1/17 ).
