What's Up For The Weekend With MLB Network Host Greg Amsinger

Ever wonder how executives in sports business spend their weekends? THE DAILY this week continues, "What's Up For The Weekend?," providing readers with an inside look at people in our industry. Today, we catch up with MLB Network host GREG AMSINGER , who talked with Staff Writer Jessica Collins about what he likes to do on the weekend. Q: What is your weekend routine? Amsinger: I'm on the air with our nightly studio show "MLB Tonight" for 15-20 hours Monday through Friday so, with such little time for my family during the work week, my weekend routine revolves around my wife ERICA and our six-year-old daughter VANESSA . I'll take them out for breakfast at a diner near where we live in New Jersey. Shopping and errands usually follows and when we get home I like to get outside around the house if I can, so I'll try to tackle some yard work. Since I miss so many dinners during the week, we get fancy and dine out on weekends.  Q: What is your weekend exercise routine? Amsinger: I run three miles each and every day. I wake up very early to exercise on weekends so my family is still sleeping when I leave. It's the same three-mile route through my neighborhood. There's nothing exciting about it, but I love the daily struggle of a run. It's more mental than physical and it helps me focus. After accomplishing the three miles, anything that follows during my day feels like a piece of cake.  Q: What is a weekend must-read? Amsinger: Box scores and recaps from the weekend baseball games. I can be on air hosting "MLB Tonight" for four hours a night, so I need to know everything that took place in all 15 games played over the weekend, especially with the pennant races, so I'm up-to-speed on Monday when I host the show. Also, children's books are must-reads during the weekend. Q: On the weekends, what do you try to make extra time for? Amsinger: Conversations with my wife. She does such an amazing job keeping our lives in order during the week, I feel it's necessary to make sure we have a good chunk of time to just look at each other and talk. Priorities are huge in life and while the career, house and activities are great, without her happiness I'm really miserable. So I devote time to her, and I couldn't think of anything more enjoyable than that.
