New Zealand Considering Billion-Dollar Break From World Rugby

Private equity firm Silver Lake is reportedly considering investing in New Zealand Rugby, the governing body for rugby union in New Zealand. According to the   New Zealand Herald , New Zealand Rugby is concerned about the game’s revenue model and has had talks seeking investment from both Silver Lake and CVC Capital Partners. Such a move could allow NZ Rugby to operate more independently from the global governing body, World Rugby.

Silver Lake already has investments in the City Football Group (which owns Manchester City FC), The Madison Square Garden Company and the UFC. The Silicon Valley firm has raised tens of billions of dollars in commitments, and is considered one of the biggest technology investors in the world.
