Texans Cancel Meetings So Players Can Attend George Floyd's Funeral

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said that the team "will not hold virtual meetings on June 9, the day of George Floyd's funeral in Houston, so players can attend if they would like," according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. O'Brien "plans to attend the funeral." He "spoke at length" yesterday about Floyd's death and the "state of race relations" in the U.S. O'Brien: "We stand by you, and we are ready to do our part in this community." He added, "It's not just police brutality, although that's what we're talking about right now. It's corporate America. It's professional sports. It's the medical area. It's the legal area. We all have to do our part. We all have to do it now." O'Brien said that his opinion surrounding the recent public issues has been "shaped by conversations he's had with players," including QB Deshaun Watson and WR Kenny Stills. O'Brien said that the Texans' front office today "will meet with the players to discuss Floyd's death" (ESPN.com, 6/3).
