All NCAA Division I athletes across all fall sports will receive an extra year of eligibility regardless of whether they play this season, according to a waiver issued by the Division I Council.
The council further prohibited schools from canceling or reducing athletics scholarships if a college athlete in any sport opts not to participate this year due to COVID-19. Schools are also banned from requiring athletes to waive legal rights regarding COVID-19 as a condition of athletic participation
All non-football fall sports championships in Division I have been postponed to the spring. The respective councils for D-II and D-III announced earlier this month that all fall championships were canceled this year due to the pandemic.
