Genius Sports has "agreed to buy Second Spectrum, a provider of cutting-edge data tracking and visualization technology," for $200M, according to I-Chun Chen of the L.A. BUSINESS JOURNAL. Genius Sports said that it is a "cash-and-stock deal." L.A.-based Second Spectrum was founded in '13 and is a "fully integrated sports artificial-intelligence provider, offering tracking, analytics and data visualization services." It is the "official tracking provider of the EPL, NBA, and MLS." The acquisition is "expected to close in the second quarter" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/6). Genius' deal for Second Spectrum comes after the firm was valued at $3B in April after going public. On April 1, Genius also supplanted Sportradar as the exclusive distributor of NFL data to sportsbooks globally in a six-year deal valued at $120M annually, with half to be paid through Genius equity (SBJ).
