Source: Temple to name Texas' Arthur Johnson as AD

Univ. of Texas Exec Senior Associate AD Arthur Johnson, who has been at UT for the last 11 years, "will be named the athletic director at Temple University on Thursday," according to a source cited by Cedric Golden of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN. Johnson has served as Texas AD Chris Del Conte's "right hand man, overseeing several areas, most notably athletic facilities and operations." Temple chose Johnson "from a list of finalists that included" former 76ers President & GM Billy King. Johnson's biggest challenge "will be to increase fan interest in Temple's football program." Building an on-campus football stadium "would be ideal but a huge undertaking" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 10/6). In Philadelphia, Mike Jensen notes former Temple basketball coach Fran Dunphy has served as Temple interim AD since Pat Kraft left in '20 to become AD at Boston College (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/6).
