In Portland, Demi Lawrence wrote area basketball players Jackson Shelstad and Sofia Bell are the first high school athletes in Oregon to "sign an endorsement deal under new name-image-likeness rules," as they now will promote apparel company Portland Gear. Both athletes will attend the Univ. of Oregon next year. On Oct. 10, the Oregon School Activities Association voted to "allow high school athletes the same benefits" as college athletes regarding NIL. This makes 18 states that "allow high school students to sign NIL deals" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/20).
REPPING THE BRAND: In Hartford, Lila Bromberg wrote UConn G Caroline Ducharme is now a brand ambassador for Moolah Kicks, the first basketball sneaker brand "built exclusively for women." Alongside WNBA Indiana Fever G Destanni Henderson, Ducharme will "help the brand launch its new Neovolt Pro sneaker this week." She "won’t be able to wear Moolah Kicks on the court for the Huskies this season, though," as UConn is a Nike school (HARTFORD COURANT, 10/20).
