PGA Tour Honda Classic Exec Dir Andrew George said that the search for a replacement sponsor for Honda has been underway, and that the list of companies has "been narrowed to about five," according to Tom D'Angelo of the PALM BEACH POST. Honda's run as title sponsor ends after this month's event, and George said that 40-50 companies "were on the original list." George said that the event "still remains one the tour can sell because of the location, marketplace, growth and philanthropy" as the group behind it is working toward "signing a new title sponsor." With Honda as a sponsor, more than $50M has been "contributed to national and local charities, including a record" $6.45M last year. George said the PGA Tour has "no interest in dropping us off the schedule." But D'Angelo writes it is "very likely" the tournament could be moved in the schedule in the future to give it a "more desirable spot that would boost the field" (PALM BEACH POST, 2/7).
