The Pirates are "planning a major expansion of the left field scoreboard as well as other enhancements at PNC Park, much of which will be paid for by fans who attend games through an additional $1 ticket surcharge." The Pirates "intend to replace and expand the main scoreboard in time for the 2023 season," with the width increasing from 82 feet to 142 feet. In all, nearly $4.8M in PNC Park improvements "will be financed through the new surcharge," according to the Sports & Exhibition Authority that owns/operates the ballpark. They include "replacing or adding ribbon boards, converting static signs under the scoreboard to a ribbon board, and changing a sign behind home plate to LED" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 7/14).
