Serena Williams revealed she was shifting away from tennis but would be playing the 2022 U.S. Open at around 9am ET yesterday, and after her first-person essay in Vogue went live, the U.S. Open sold 13,000 tickets in the next six hours. The Open’s opening night is nearly sold out, with only a handful of the lowest priced $35 tickets remaining, according to a USTA source. More than 4,500 opening night tickets were sold in the six-hour period Tuesday, while nearly 4,000 tickets for the second night went as well.
