Before he was promoted to his current position in 2021, Phillips made his name in local sports as the senior vice president and general manager of NBC Sports Washington, the regional sports network based in the D.C. metro area. While running that network, Phillips became known for pushing innovation — something RSNs historically have been loath to do. He oversaw the first gambling-focused productions around NBA regular-season and NFL preseason games. Under his leadership, NBC Sports has focused its diversity and inclusion strategy on employee engagement and creating diverse candidate pipelines; content that appeals to diverse audiences; and community partnerships.
